 
Gilari Afghan Hounds
Our home is in Somerset, and after over a year of looking, eventually in 1971 we purchased our first Afghan and registered GILARI with The Kennel Club. We have gone through from showing dogs to breeding and judging.
In the early years we were fortunate enough to see some wonderful afghans which developed and formed our thoughts about the breed generally. We saw afghans with great type and movement which compounded our thoughts on this unique breed.
Our involvement in the canine world has led to both of us giving much time to the breed through Jill being Secretary of the Western Afghan Hound Club for the past 20 years, Clari serving on that same Club for 25 years as a Committee Member, Show Manager, Vice-Chairman & now President. Both Jill and Clari are also part of the Committee of two different general Championship Shows as Assistant Secretary and Chief Steward . Our aim is to promote, show and breed good quality afghan hounds. We have been Championship Show judges of afghan hounds since the 1980's.
Our admiration for Carloway/Moonswift lines has probably been apparent in the dogs that we have shown over the years.
Our most successful afghan was Ch. Gilari Goldstrike JW who won consistently throughout his show career and was homebred and grandson of Ch. Moonswift Moonglade and Great Grandson of Ch Amudarya The Pagan. The combination of these lines compounded the type and soundness we were looking for.
We have been lucky enough to maintain showing, breeding and judging and have forged long term friendships as a result of our love of the afghan hound.
